Xi Jinping’s Ice-Cold Handshake with Japan’s Shinzo Abe
In November 10, 2014 in Beijing, China, China’s President Xi Jinping (R) shakes hands with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Great Hall of the People, on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings.
After a period of increased tensions over disputed territory and disputed history, China and Japan drew closer to establishing a more functional diplomatic relationship with a handshake on Monday between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing.
Although leaders from the two nations met and exchanged views for further development, the picture above still clearly shows that it is an awkward handshake. Apparently, there are still a number of unresolved conflicts between Japan and China, especially the several visits to the controversial Yasukuni shrine, which commemorates the county’s war dead, including convicted war criminals, and the issue of Diaoyu Islands seriously hurt the feelings of more than 1.3 billion Chinese people.

Some net users uploaded the picture of “Winnie-the-Pooh” to compare to the chilly handshake between China’s President Xi Jinping (R) and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. A majority of net users admitted that two pictures are extremely alike and perfect matching. In addition, it is believed that this handshake cannot disguise frostiness between Japan and China. China and Japan’s relationship will still be under stress in recent years.
